20th Annual George Wythe Band Festival Page! --New and Improved--

On October 10 about 1,000 participants came to Wytheville for a beautiful day of competition. See our PRESS PAGE for a write up, awards, and pictures of the event.

Over the Christmas break the site was expanded and moved to a larger site on Geocities. Many new pictures were added to each band's page. They include some great close ups taken by Mr. Smith and Mr. Ridenhour lurking on the sidelines. There's a even a little surprise for the GW fans. Update your bookmarks and

4th Annual Barbecue Dinner and Concert in the Park

Mark your calendar now for a date you and your family surely will not want to miss. Monday, May 3 will be the return of the George Wythe Concert Band's annual spring concert, The Barbecue Dinner and Concert in the Park. The setting will be the main stage in the Elizabeth Brown Memorial Park in downtown Wytheville. In just its third year, the Concert has become one of the featured events on the area's spring calendar. This year it occurs just days before the Band travels to Boston to compete in National Competition. As always you can expect their selections to be honed to perfection. Once again, the GW Band will be joined by the 6th & 7th Grade Band from Scott Memorial.

Pure Country Steakhouse and Saloon will be providing the buffet which will include barbecue and all the trimmings for a $5 donation. Dinner will be served from 4:30 to 6:00. The Concert begins at 6:00 and is FREE to the public. In case of inclement weather, the Concert will be held in the adjacent Wytheville Community Center building. Bring your lawn chairs and come prepared to enjoy one of the most refreshing events of the Spring season at the Dinner and Concert in the Park!

Hope To See You There !

GW Band Wraps Up Marching Season

The Might Maroon Marching Band closed out the Fall Marching Season by participating in the Wytheville Christmas Parade. The rains came, but their spirits didn't dampen. The clouds parted long enough for the start of the parade (after everybody was already wet!). The Mighty Maroon Band lead the way down main street for the parade which stretched for over three miles and included all three county bands. Check it out here.

George Wythe Concert Band Christmas Concert

For the first time in several years, the George Wythe Concert Band presented a Christmas Concert. It was held on Tuesday, December 15 at 8:00 in the GWHS auditorium. It's been hard to put one of these together close on the heels of a busy marching season, but the band assembled a group of Christmas favorites that was a real crowd pleaser. And what a crowd! The GW Band and their special guests, the 6th & 7th grade band from Scott Memorial, played to a packed house.
