21st Annual George Wythe Band Festival

WE DID IT !!! With 21 bands and all of their followers coming to visit, we knew it would take an extra effort to make sure the Festival ran smoothly and everyone had an enjoyable time. We went to the phones and called for help. Before we knew it we had Aunts, Uncles, Friends, ... we even had a Step-Grand Dad come out to help make the Festival a success, even in the rain. Many thanks to all those who helped out.

And many thanks to all of the competitors who made this Festival not just the largest one we ever had, but also, without a doubt, the best one as well. Show after show bedazzled the crowd. Their organization and professionalism also helped the show run on time. That was something everyone sitting in the rain appreciated. Your comments and suggestions are welcome at .

Results and scores are posted here on the Marching Emporium. Keep watch at our festival site for sights, sounds and more details later. Thanks to everyone and we hope to have you back next year!!!

Uniform Fee

"Uniform fee! What's that?" It's probably that thing you haven't paid if you have to ask! We had hoped to collect it by the end of marching season, but several folks have not paid yet. We need the money now so we can cover the cleaning and storing of the uniforms. Check out the Booster's page for an explanation of fees and payment policies. It goes to a good cause ... US!

A few band members have enough money in their accounts to cover the fee. If you have participated in band fund raisers, you may be able to deduct this from your account. Check with Treasurer Rob Kern for account balances.

Band Camp is Behind Us

What a hot and dusty week. After lots of hard work the show is taking shape. Did I mention it was HOT!!. Congratulations to all of the survivors. And a big thanks to all of the parents and other folks who helped out. A short documentary of the week's events can be found on the picture page.

The benchmark has been set pretty high by the GW Bands of the past few years. The string of class championships extends over five years. But each year in the past it started anew about this time, just like this year. A group of nervous veterans is joined by a group of "nervouser" newcomers for a few weeks of band camp. Nobody knows what to expect out of themselves or anyone else. Bodies are cooked in the hot sun, nerves are frayed, mettle tested.

Then ...

The feeling comes back to the returning members. And the new recruits start to catch on (after all, Marching is just fancy walking and most of you have done that before!). The confidence builds and the band begins to gel into one unit working together for a common goal. Just like last year, and the year before and ...
