Best of luck to the class of 2001. Thanks for all the hard work and dedication over the years. Now it's all up to the ones left behind to carry on the tradition of excellence.

Send Off for the Horners

Our band director, Nickey Horner, surprised us all on 8/13 by announcing she would be leaving. So we decided to surprise her and Jack by throwing together a send off party just five days later (are we organized or what?!!). Thanks to the Zammits for the organizing and inviting the whole gang down to the farm. There was a good time had by all under the circumstances. Best wishes to the Horners at their new home and a big

THANK YOU

for all you've done for the band.

And Speaking of Alumni ...

The 1948 Mighty Maroon Band of Wytheville High School

We recently received an email from Will Allison, (MMB Class of 18??). He has started a web site for Mighty Maroon Band Alumni.

Hello!

The GWHS Mighty Maroon Band Alumni Association is currently expanding a web site for band alumni from Wytheville HS and George Wythe HS. The site is designed as a forum where alumni can meet electronically to share memories. We are encouraging alumni from each "era" to submit pictures and memorabilia (scanned, of course) to this address. JPG format is preferred for all submissions. We have included a link to your fine home page under the gallery for Mrs. Horner. Please encourage all current and past members from the Mr. & Mrs. Horner tenures to submit materials for the Horner era galleries!

We also need, if any are available, pictures and mementos from the "reigns" of Steve Hedrick, Jim White, Ernie Craig, Jim Hurt, Bill Svec, Mike Green (many of that era have been submitted), Elwood Porsche and, OF COURSE, of Dr. Jack White.

Please include a link to our site on your next update of your home page. The Band Alumni Association is just beginning to get off the ground, and hopes that all current and past members of will avail themselves of our services online and, eventually, offline as well (reunions, concerts, etc.). The URL for our site is currently:

www9.50megs.com/gwhsmmb/mmbhome.htm

Thank You,

Will Allison,
Web Site Administrator

It's just off the ground, so he is looking for photos, stories, e-mail addresses for former band members. Sign in and find out "Where they are today" (and let them know where you are, too). Click this link to check out the site at:

Maroons Play at Spiller

The Mighty Maroon Marching Band took time out to travel to Spiller Elementary School to give a preview of this year's show. The Spiller crew turned out in big numbers to see what has become another championship show. Who knows? Maybe some of the spectators will be strutting their stuff with the Maroons in a few years!
