On to Bigger and Better Things

Once again it's time to bid farewell to a group of seniors who have held the band together during trying and changing times. Thanks to their leadership, the band continues to flourish and be successful. Brandon, Brittany, and Kendra (I think that's Brandon with the trombone) will participate in their last official performance when the band plays for this Sunday's graduation ceremony. Good luck to all. We'll miss you as you head off into the REAL world.

Awards Banquet 2003

The 2003 Awards Banquet was held on June 5, at West End United Methodist Church. The band got together for food, fellowship, and to celebrate the completion of another successful year. Pull up a stool to see more scenes from the event.

Memorial Day at the Wall of Honor

The Mighty Maroon Band played for the ceremony at the Wall of Honor in Withers Park this past Memorial Day weekend. Civic groups from across the county gathered to honor local heroes who had fallen in service to their country. The band added to the event by taking part in the ceremony and playing both before and after the proceedings.

Back from Chicago

The Mighty Maroon Band Arrived back from the competition trip to the Heritage Festival in Chicago this past Sunday. The contest consisted of a judged concert performance in competition with bands from across the country. The MMB finished in first place with the best performance of the day. Judging was tough as none of the competing bands scored better than an excellent or Silver rating. Congratulations on another National Recognition!

The award winning Festival pieces will be part of the band's program at the annual Concert and Picnic in the Park to be held Tuesday, May 13 at the Elizabeth Brown Park. The concert is free and open to the public. A picnic dinner will be available for concertgoers for a nominal fee. In the case of rain, the event will be held indoors at the Wytheville Recreation Center.

District Ratings Saturday, March 15

Congratulations to the Mighty Maroon Band
Superior Rating

The Mighty Maroon Band went to Marion HS for the District Ratings Festival. Their performance consisted of three prepared pieces played before a panel of judges. For their efforts, the band received a Superior Rating along with several complementary comments from the bedazzled judges. The performance was the culmination of several weeks of practice a preparation crammed in after football season and in between snow days. Late days and extra practices were the rule these last few weeks. Congrats to the band and to Mr. Spence for a successful first outing at Ratings (we'll expect no less next year!).

ASU Marching Contest

Here all the girls practice in hopes one day they will be able to carry the Olympic Torch as well as Cara.

New DM for 2002 - 2003

Congrats to Aaron Copenhaver for being picked as the 2002 - 2003 Drum Major. Aaron's been working hard on his technique and has a few interesting tricks up his sleeve (don't get too close!). He'll have to work hard to fill Rachel's shoes (even harder to fill her old uniform), but we're sure he'll do us proud.
