Fund Raisers

INDIVIDUAL SALES

George Wythe Band Booster bylaws provide for each band member to earn cash towards band related expenses through individual fund raising projects. Money earned from designated events is held in an account in each band member's name and can be used for band related expenses such as band camp, uniform fee, or the bi-annual competition trip that will take place the spring of (2008). With the trip just around the corner, expect to see several opportunities for your band student to earn their own way (read that as $550) to this years' competition spot. Look here for information on ongoing fund raising events in the coming weeks.

Football Concessions

The two biggest fund raisers for the band occur each fall. First are football concessions. Proceeds from this operation make the band program possible. Uniforms, travel costs, instruments, entry fees, and music are just a few of the "extras" that are purchased with the concession proceeds.

It takes 15 to 18 band parents to operate the home and visitor concessions at a Friday varsity game. Four to six are needed to staff the home concession for the JV games held during the week. Please check out the calendar and concession sign up sheet for available dates. Perks include free entry into the football stadium and you get to HEAR (not see) the game and maybe a little bit of the half time show (which occurs, unfortunately, during the half time rush!). This is a chance for you to contribute in a real, hands on way (hands on hot dogs, pizza, Pepsi, etc.) to the success of the band program. Please plan to spend this quality time with your fellow band patrons this fall. Besides, you'll get to see the show at the competitions.

The George Wythe Band Festival

AND speaking of competitions, the other major fall fund raiser is one of the best in the region, the George Wythe Band Festival. Now in it's 29th year, this event has become a favorite for area bands. That's right, several thousand performers and fans will crowd into Pendleton Field for one of the largest and most spectacular events of the year. As hosts, it is our responsibility to make sure everything runs smoothly and everyone has a great time. 40 to 50 able bodies are needed to cover all of the bases at this big event, so PLAN ON SPENDING THE DAY IN WYTHEVILLE ON OCTOBER 13.
